I want to take the guesswork out of selling your car. I analyze market data, decode DMV title laws, and test out online car buyers to give you a straight answer on whether it's worth holding out for a higher price or if you're better off taking the most convenient offer and moving on.

How we checked this page
  • The Hyundai Tucson figures are instant cash offers from online car buyers on Hyundai Tucsons 10 years and older, from Sell Car Advisor's quote data, set against all cars of the same model years.
  • What each fault takes off an offer comes from cars of every age quoted by several buyers, each compared only with cars of similar age and mileage.
  • Repair costs are RepairPal's national estimates, with parts at the manufacturer's list price.

The bottom line: An old Hyundai Tucson is offered a little less than a typical car its age. Whether it still drives can matter more than its year.

A Tucson that still drives may do better with a private buyer, after weeks of messages and viewings.

If it won’t start, say so on the form. A buyer that priced it as a runner will change the number when the truck arrives.

A bad transmission or a blown engine doesn’t stop an online offer, so get offers before you pay for a repair.

Key Takeaways

  • Typical offer: Old Tucsons are offered less than most cars their age, typically $490 for a 2005 to 2009 against $545 across all makes.
  • Drives or not: A Tucson that still runs can beat a newer one that doesn’t: a 2008 Hyundai Tucson with 287,000 miles that drove got a best offer of $525, against $475 for a 2015 Hyundai Tucson with 120,000 miles that wouldn’t start.
  • Offers over $1,000: Most old Tucsons are offered less than four figures, with only 25% of offers going over $1,000.

How Much Can You Sell an Old Hyundai Tucson For?

Our offer data holds 17 offers on 2005 to 2009 Hyundai Tucsons, 10 years and older when quoted, and the middle one is $490. Those cars came in at every mileage and in every state of repair.

Take every car from 2005 to 2009, Tucsons among them, and the typical offer is $545, drawn from 4,397 offers on 2005 to 2009 cars, 10 years and older when quoted. The Tucson comes in below the cars it shares a birth year with. Both groups sit close in age, with the Tucsons a little older, so part of that gap is age rather than the car.

Count its own model years together and buyers typically offer $590 for an old Tucson (cars 10 years and older, 24 offers). That figure and the 2005 to 2009 one do not disagree. The pooled one takes in newer Tucsons that the year group leaves out.

For the 2010 to 2015 Tucson there is no figure at all. Too few of them had turned ten by the time they were quoted. A model year group needs ten offers behind it before we state one.

The Tucson is no outlier inside its own make. No age band in the chart puts an old Hyundai level with a typical car of the same age.

That chart counts every old Hyundai we have offers on, not Tucsons alone. It is context for the Tucson figures, not a substitute for them.

How Much Do Offers on an Old Hyundai Tucson Vary?

25% of the offers we hold on Tucsons ten years or older reached $1,000 or more, and 13% came in under $400. The rest landed somewhere in between.

Both shares come from a thin slice of our data (Hyundai Tucson, cars 10 years and older, 24 offers). A handful of cars either way would move them a long distance, so read them as the shape of the spread and not as your odds.

Miles and damage both move the number. At the same age, the typical best offer drops as the miles rise in our data, though past 150,000 miles it barely moves on a car 15 years or older.

What mileage does to the offer, at the same age

1,007 cars 10 years and older, best of up to three offers · Miles on the odometer

Typical top offer by mileage band, within each age band, for cars 10 years and older. A missing bar is a band with fewer than 30 cars. Mileage matters most while the car is young enough for it to matter; past twenty years mileage moves the offer much less. Off the chart, because it would squash every other bar: 10 to 14 years old under 50k miles, $2,895 on 33 cars.

That chart covers every car ten years or older we have quoted, not Tucsons. It takes the best of up to three offers on each car. Its figures therefore run higher than the single-buyer offers elsewhere on this page.

Read the shape rather than the level. Fewer miles generally mean a better offer at every age, and your Tucson’s own band is the row to look at.

What Online Car Buyers Offered for Two Old Hyundai Tucsons

Peddle, Wheelzy and CashForCars each quoted a Tucson here. Just two Tucsons ten years or older drew a number from more than one buyer. Take the two below as illustrations, not as a Tucson price.

A 2008 Hyundai Tucson with 287,000 miles still drove, with a warning light on, a clean title and no body damage. Two buyers matched at $525 on the same day, and a third came in lower.

A 2015 Hyundai Tucson with 120,000 miles would not start, with no working battery and an engine that would not turn over. Two buyers put a number on it, and the higher was $475. Those two figures sat a long way apart, and the gap is the whole argument for asking more than one buyer.

CashForCars priced the 2008 only. On the 2015 it asked the seller to call instead of giving an online offer.

The seller accepted Peddle’s $475 on that 2015, the same day it came in. No other offer on this page carries a recorded acceptance.

A Tucson that still drives, like the 2008 in our quotes, may do better with a private buyer. Expect weeks of messages and viewings for it. One that will not start rarely finds a private buyer at all.

How Much Does Damage Lower a Hyundai Tucson Offer?

Against an otherwise comparable car that drives, an engine that will not start puts the best offer about -46%. Behind it sit cars of every age quoted by several buyers, Tucsons and everything else. Each one is weighed only inside its own age and mileage band.

Set against a comparable car without the problem, a missing catalytic converter puts the best offer about -57%. A car sitting at a repair shop puts it about -23%.

Body damage puts it about -13%, and a missing title lowers it too.

The 2008 that drove was offered $525 at best, and the 2015 that would not start $475. The newer Tucson with far fewer miles drew the smaller offer.

No working battery, an engine that would not turn over and mileage the form marked unverified all went in on the 2015.

The two are not a like-for-like pair either. One is a 2008 with 287,000 miles quoted in Florida, the other a 2015 with 120,000 miles quoted in Hawaii a week later. Where a car sits can move an offer on its own.

Two cars settle nothing between them. A best-of figure also sits above the typical offer by design, so it cannot be read against the model year figures higher up this page.

Should You Fix an Old Hyundai Tucson Before You Sell It?

Price the repair before you decide anything. The two big ones are the transmission and the head gasket, and RepairPal prices them at $6,238 to $6,764 and $2,572 to $3,386, with parts at the manufacturer’s list price. Both of those are averages for the job across every vehicle on the road, never a Tucson rate.

Either job costs several times what any Tucson figure on this page shows. A bad transmission or a blown engine is no bar to an online offer, and the truck comes either way.

Cheaper repairs are a closer call. A timing belt at $918 to $1,338 costs more than a 2005 to 2009 Tucson is offered, and more than the pooled figure as well.

Ask the shop to put its number in writing, then run the Tucson through untouched and see what buyers say. If fixing it costs more than it adds to the offer, leave it alone.

Selling Your Hyundai Tucson Once You Have an Offer

Once you take a quote, the buyer arranges the truck and the pickup slot. Nothing has to be driveable, because a Tucson that will not start is winched straight onto the bed.

The driver will want the title in your name and some photo ID. Nobody loads the Tucson until you have been paid and the title is signed.

How we got these numbers

Every figure here is drawn from 17,628 instant cash offers made to sellers over 2021 to 2026. They are offers, not sale prices, and “typical” is the median, not the average: half the offers were higher and half lower.

Only a small part of that pile is Tucsons. The shares come from Hyundai Tucson, cars 10 years and older, 24 offers, and the year figure from 17 offers on 2005 to 2009 Hyundai Tucsons, 10 years and older when quoted. With a base that size, one unusual car shifts a share the way it never could site-wide.

No other Tucson ten years or older has been priced by more than one buyer for us. The 2015 counts once in that pair, though it was submitted three times on a single day.

Every damage figure sets a car beside others of like age and mileage, all quoted by several buyers on a single day. None of those groups is Tucsons alone.

RepairPal prices a job nationally, over all makes and models rather than the Tucson. The full statistics and how each one is calculated.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will the offer on a Hyundai Tucson change if I ask again the same day?

Ours did not. The same 2015 Tucson went into the comparison tool three times on one day. Both buyers that gave an online offer returned the same figure each time.

CashForCars was asked once and wanted a phone call, so there is nothing to compare there.

Over longer stretches an offer can move. Asking twice in an afternoon is unlikely to change it.

Does a Hyundai Tucson stop getting offers once the miles pile up?

Not in our data. A 2008 Hyundai Tucson with 287,000 miles drew offers from three buyers on one day.

More miles does mean a lower offer at the same age, which is what the mileage chart on this page shows. It does not mean the offers stop.

Can you sell a Hyundai Tucson that won’t start?

Yes. The 2015 in our quotes would not start and still drew offers from two buyers on the same day.

Say so on the form. A buyer that has priced it as a runner will change the number when the truck gets there.

Does the Hyundai Tucson trim change what it is offered?

Our quote form records the trim, and one of the two Tucsons went in as a GLS. We do not hold enough old Tucson offers to split them by trim, so there is no figure for it here.

Pick the right trim on the form all the same. It is one less thing to correct when the driver arrives.

Do these figures cover the Hyundai Tucson Hybrid?

No. Our ten-year cut-off keeps every newer car out of these figures, and no Tucson Hybrid has reached that age.

The quotes and the damage figures cover gas Tucsons. What a worn hybrid battery does to an offer is a question our data cannot answer.
