I want to take the guesswork out of selling your car. I analyze market data, decode DMV title laws, and test out online car buyers to give you a straight answer on whether it's worth holding out for a higher price or if you're better off taking the most convenient offer and moving on.

Wheelzy vs Carvana 2026 (Who Pays More?) 2

The bottom line: Wheelzy buys cars that most other services reject, including junk, wrecked, and non-running vehicles. They pick up for free and pay you on the spot. However, their first offers tend to be low and sometimes require a phone call instead of an instant online quote.

Carvana is better for newer cars under ten years old in good shape. Their offers on clean title vehicles often beat dealer trade-in prices. However, home pickup fees can run up to $600 (or you can drop off at a vending machine for free), and they won’t buy cars that don’t run.

We tested both with a 2018 Tesla Model 3 (clean title, 73k miles) and a 2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer (non-drivable, 258k miles) in January 2026. Carvana offered $14,200 for the Tesla but declined the Trailblazer. Wheelzy offered $362 for the Trailblazer but didn’t give an instant quote for the Tesla.

Your car’s condition decides which service to use. If you have a newer car with a clean title, try Carvana first. If your car is damaged, old, or won’t start, Wheelzy is the better choice.

Neither service will get you as much as selling your car yourself through a private sale.

Wheelzy vs. Carvana: Detailed Comparison

Both companies give you quotes that last 7 days. Wheelzy’s process takes about 2 minutes and only asks basic details like year, make, model, and condition.

Carvana’s 5-step process requires photos, condition details, and accident history. They cross-check everything against CarFax and AutoCheck reports, so they know a lot about your car before they even see it.

The biggest difference is what they’ll buy. Wheelzy takes non-running cars, salvage titles, and vehicles with major damage. Carvana needs your car to at least start and drive. When we tried quoting the non-drivable Trailblazer on Carvana, it was rejected immediately.

Carvana offered $14,200 for the 2018 Tesla Model 3, which is competitive for a clean title EV. Wheelzy didn’t give an instant online quote for the Tesla and wanted us to call their purchasing team instead.

For the broken-down 2007 Trailblazer, Wheelzy offered $362 while Carvana wouldn’t even consider it.

Here are the main differences between the two services:

  • Wheelzy sends a tow truck for free and pays cash or check right there. Carvana charges $0 to $600 for home pickup, or you can drop off at a vending machine for free.
  • Wheelzy’s driver does a quick 10 to 15 minute check. Carvana’s inspection takes about 20 minutes and may lead to a different offer.
  • Wheelzy covers all 50 states including rural areas. Carvana mainly works in major cities.
  • Wheelzy often finishes the sale same day. Carvana takes 1 to 3 days on average.

If you’re selling a Tesla or another newer EV, Carvana will likely offer more since those cars are easy for them to resell. For older damaged vehicles, check other online junk car buyers too, since Wheelzy’s first offers can sometimes be negotiated higher when you show competing quotes.

Where to Sell Your Car

Carvana is the better choice if your car is under ten years old, runs well, and has a clean title. They offered $14,200 for the 2018 Tesla Model 3 in our test.

Wheelzy makes more sense for older vehicles, cars with damage, or anything that won’t start. They offered $362 for a 2007 Trailblazer that Carvana wouldn’t even quote. Wheelzy often finishes everything in one day, while Carvana can take a few days.

Your car’s condition is the deciding factor. If your mechanic says repairs cost more than the car is worth, Wheelzy can help you turn it into cash fast. If your car is in good shape, Carvana’s offers are usually more competitive. Check our guide on selling a car with mechanical problems for more options.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which company offers more money for cars?

It depends on what you’re selling. In our January 2026 tests, Carvana offered $14,200 for a 2018 Tesla Model 3 with 73k miles and a clean title. Wheelzy didn’t even give an instant quote for that car online.

For a non-running 2007 Trailblazer with 258k miles, Wheelzy offered $362 while Carvana declined it completely. Carvana offers more for newer, clean title cars. Wheelzy is the only option for damaged or non-running vehicles.

How quickly can I sell my car with Wheelzy or Carvana?

Wheelzy is faster. They often pick up same day or next day, and you get paid immediately when the tow driver arrives. The whole process can finish in under 24 hours.

Carvana takes 1 to 3 days from quote to pickup. You can schedule home pickup or drop your car off at a Carvana vending machine for free. Their payment is a printed check at pickup or an ACH transfer that takes 2 to 5 business days to clear.

Do Wheelzy and Carvana buy cars that don’t run?

Wheelzy buys cars that don’t run. That’s their specialty. They regularly buy vehicles with blown engines, dead transmissions, and major body damage.

Carvana requires your car to start and drive. When we tried to get a quote for a non-drivable 2007 Trailblazer, Carvana’s system immediately said they can’t buy it. If your car won’t start, Wheelzy is your best option.

Are there hidden fees with Wheelzy or Carvana?

Wheelzy is free. Pickup is free nationwide, and the amount they quote is what you get (assuming your car matches your description). No listing fees, no transaction fees.

Carvana charges pickup fees ranging from $0 to $600 depending on your location. You can avoid this by dropping your car at a Carvana vending machine if there’s one near you. Neither company charges listing or transaction fees on top of their offers.

Which company has better customer reviews?

Both are legitimate companies with solid ratings. Wheelzy has 4.7 stars on Trustpilot from 76,693 reviews and an A- BBB rating with accreditation. Carvana has 4 stars on Trustpilot from 13,976 reviews but is not BBB accredited.

Common Wheelzy complaints mention towing partners being late or price changes at pickup. Carvana complaints focus on difficulty reaching customer service and late pickups or last-minute rescheduling.

Do Wheelzy and Carvana change offers at pickup?

Both companies can adjust your offer if the car doesn’t match what you described. Wheelzy’s tow driver does a quick 10 to 15 minute check and will lower the price if they find problems you didn’t mention. Be honest upfront and your price stays the same.

Carvana’s inspection takes about 20 minutes and they cross-check everything against CarFax and AutoCheck reports. If something doesn’t match, they’ll adjust the offer on the spot. You can always walk away if you don’t agree with the new number.

What if I still owe money on my car?

Both companies buy financed cars. Carvana handles the payoff directly with your lender and is generally smoother at managing this process. They need your loan information upfront.

Wheelzy can also coordinate with your lender, but expect the process to take longer than selling a car you own outright. If your car’s offer is less than what you owe, you’ll need to cover the difference with both companies.

Will Wheelzy or Carvana buy a car with a salvage title?

Wheelzy buys salvage title vehicles regularly. That’s part of their focus on problem cars. Expect offers to be 30% to 50% less than what the car would get with a clean title.

Carvana generally doesn’t accept salvage titles. They might consider rebuilt titles in some cases, but it’s not something they advertise. If you have a salvage title, Wheelzy is the better option.

Can I negotiate with Wheelzy or Carvana?

Wheelzy is known for matching competitor offers. If you show them a higher quote from Peddle, CarBrain, or CashForCars, they may bump their price. Many sellers report getting $100 to $200 more this way.

Carvana is less flexible on price. Their offers are algorithm-based, so there’s not much room to negotiate. The best approach is getting quotes from multiple services and going with the highest one.

What paperwork do I need for Wheelzy or Carvana?

Both need your car’s title and a valid photo ID. If your name doesn’t match the title exactly, the co-owner needs to be there to sign.

If you don’t have a title, Wheelzy can often still buy your car depending on your state’s rules (though expect a lower offer). Carvana typically requires the title. For cars with loans, both companies need your lender information to handle the payoff.

What happens if I change my mind after accepting an offer?

Both companies let you cancel anytime before the sale is done. Wheelzy’s offers are good for 7 days and you can back out with no penalty during that window. Carvana also gives you 7 days.

Once you sign the title and get your payment, the sale is final with both companies. Neither charges cancellation fees if you change your mind before completing the transaction.
