The bottom line: You can’t sell your car to Vroom any more: it stopped buying and selling used cars in January 2024, when it shut down its online used car business. The company is still in business as a car lender and a data company, and neither buys cars from the public.
Carvana makes an instant offer online the way Vroom did, and Sites Like Carvana compares it with the buyers that work the same way. Our list of the best online car buyers adds the other companies that buy cars online.

Why Did They Stop?
Vroom ran out of money to keep buying and selling cars. When it announced the shutdown, its chief executive said it could not raise the capital it needed to fund its operations and renew the credit line that financed its stock of cars.
Kelley Blue Book reported that selling cars online proved more cash-intensive than these companies expected, with last-mile delivery and title and registration disputes with states among the challenges.
What’s Next for Vroom?
Vroom is still in business, but only through two companies it owns, and neither buys cars from the public. United Auto Credit Corporation (UACC) lends to car buyers through dealers, mostly to borrowers with weaker credit, and CarStory sells vehicle data and analytics to dealers and lenders, and lists dealers’ cars for sale.
If you bought a car from Vroom with a loan from UACC, UACC still services that loan, so you keep paying it as before. Vroom’s website now shows only the shutdown notice, a link to CarStory’s listings, and contact numbers for a GAP claim, a service contract or roadside assistance.
