2. Check your paperwork
You need the title and a photo ID. The title has to be in your own name, with no loan still showing against it.
If any of those is missing, sort it out before you accept an offer. The driver will turn around otherwise, and you’ll have lost a few days.

3. Accept an offer and book the pickup
Once you accept, the buyer assigns a local tow company and calls you to set a window. The tow company sets the day and gives you a window of a few hours rather than an exact time.
You don’t have to be there in every case, but it’s simpler if you are, since the title gets signed and payment changes hands at the car.
4. Get the car ready for the tow truck
Clear a path to the car. Move anything parked in front of it, and cut back branches or fencing that would block a flatbed.
Empty the car out. Check the glove box, trunk, under the seats, and door pockets, because once it leaves you won’t get another look.

5. Sign the title and take payment

How to Sell a Junk Car in Alabama Without a Title
Alabama gives you three realistic paths when the title is gone. Which one fits depends on the car’s age and value.
Option 1: Use the state’s scrap path. The car qualifies if it is either at least 12 model years old and worth $1,000 or less, when sold to a licensed dismantler, or more than 35 model years old. The statute is Alabama Code Section 32-8-87 (dismantler) and Section 32-8-31 (35+ year vehicles).
The 12-year route works only with a licensed dismantler or scrap recycler, and only when the car is being taken apart or crushed, so the national buyers above can’t use it. A car over 35 model years old needs no title with any buyer.
You sign a sworn statement at the yard, and they handle the filing: Form MVT 5-18, which the recycler files through the ADOR SCRAP portal.
