Trucks and pickups consistently got higher junk car offers than sedans and small SUVs, even at similar mileage, because of higher scrap weight and stronger parts demand.
The gap between the highest and lowest offer grew wider on more valuable junk vehicles, which is why getting multiple quotes matters more for trucks than for economy cars.
Our one 1990s vehicle, a 1995 Dodge Ram 2500 with over 200,000 miles, still drew a $365 instant offer from Peddle, so scrap value and remaining parts can matter more than age alone.
Buyers with hard age cutoffs, like the 1981 limit, can disqualify vehicles that still have real parts or scrap value, so not every service works for every junk car.
On lower value junk cars like the 2001 Alero, all three services offered amounts close to each other, suggesting a floor exists near scrap price that buyers don’t go below.
Buyers that couldn’t give an instant quote online may still offer competitive prices by phone, so don’t skip them just because they couldn’t price your junk car automatically.

How much is a junk car worth?
In the last year of our offers, four in five junk car offers, on cars 10 years and older, were between $245 and $2,410. In our offer data, the pickup truck is the body type offered the most, at a typical $855 for cars 10 years and older, and make, model, and local demand move the offer too.
The year, weight, and condition all play a role.
Catalytic converter value and scrap metal prices also affect what buyers offer. A car with a missing catalytic converter will get a lower offer from most services.
Can I sell a junk car without a title?

The lineup included a 2006 Ford Escape XLT with 260,813 miles, a 2001 Oldsmobile Alero with 117,800 miles, a 2007 Nissan Frontier with 143,594 miles, a 2000 Ford F-250 diesel with 294,503 miles, and a 1995 Dodge Ram 2500 with 215,354 miles.
We entered each vehicle on the Peddle, Wheelzy, and CashForCars websites using the same Orlando, FL zip code. We answered each site’s condition questions honestly and screenshotted every quote we received.
Peddle gave us an instant dollar amount for all five vehicles. Wheelzy showed instant offers for two of the five and asked us to call for the other three. CashForCars gave instant quotes for three vehicles and required a call for the remaining two.
We did not accept any offers or sell any of the vehicles. These are quote amounts only and your results may be different depending on your location and your car’s condition.
